Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative said the attack rendered him without words and had to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
